ENHANCING YOUR STYLE
Hair enhancements and shake on fibres have been making waves in modern barbering over the last few years. Hair enhancements may have started as a solution for balding or thinning hair, but have quickly switched to sharpening up fade lines and making hairlines appear more dense. Technology has significantly increased since the early days and today’s hair fibres ehance any hairstyle, and can leave the finish clean and defined. Used correctly and no one will even know they are there.
Hair fibres and colour enhancements define, sharpen and finish off a great haircut. Mainly used on hairlines, temples and widow’s peaks, brands such as Toppik and Tomb 45, are helping barbers across the world give their clients the wow factor when leaving the barbershop. Danny Robinson from Danny & Co Barbers gives his tips for using hair fibres for clients and creativity
“HAIR FIBRE SPRAYS ARE NATURALLY CHARGED WITH ELECTRO-STATICS WHICH BOND TO ANY HAIR TYPE. THEY WON’T BUDGE UNTIL THEY’RE SHAMPOOED OUT, MAKING THEM THE ULTIMATE, BEAUTY SECRET FOR SELF-CONSCIOUS CLIENTS.”
BEAUTY SECRET
Finding the perfect colour match is the key. You shouldn’t be using black on someone with medium brown hair as it’s too obvious. Less is more. Using an application pump and plastic card helps significantly as freehand sprinkling won’t create the sharp effect needed. Having a variation of colours from light brown, to black helps with all hair types, tailoring a bespoke look for each. The fibres are naturally charged with electro-statics which bond to any hair type. They won’t budge until they’re shampooed out, making them the ultimate, hassle-free, confidence-boosting beauty secret for selfconscious clients.
Another way of making patchy hairlines appear more plentiful is to use a root masking spray, again colour matched and applied with a plastic card on hairlines and temple areas. When using a root spray, you can remove any excess with running alcohol and cotton wool.
DANNY’S TOP TIPS
1 When using hair fibres, always prep the area with hairspray first giving the skin a sticky texture for the fibres to attach to.
2 Sharpen up with trimmers to create nice straight lines, finishing with a cut-throat razor.
3 Colour matching is key as the more invisible looking the join, the better.
4 Educate your clients that’s it’s only temporary and removed easily by showering.
5 Working up a sweat and wearing hair enhancements is ALWAYS a bad idea as the colour may run down your face and obliterate your newly created hairline (think Rudy Giuliani’s infamous face streak at a press conference!)
