GLOBAL BARBER
WE CHAT TO KLAUDIA CIESIELSKA, OWNER OF CIESIELSKA STUDIO, ON THE GROWTH OF BARBERING IN POLAND AND HER PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
HOW DID YOU GET INTO BARBERING?
It all started when I couldn’t find a hairdresser that understood how I wanted my hair cut. I myself, couldn’t explain exactly what I wanted. One day, I came home from the salon and was disappointed with the cut I’d been given so decided to perfect it myself with the only tool I had – a Chinese knife. At the time, I wanted the wolf cut and after three hours of struggle, I managed to achieve the desired effect. Over time, I began to enjoy creating my own style and experimenting with different cuts. This became not only a practical solution for me, but also developed into a passion.
WHAT OR WHO HELPED YOU TO PERFECT THE SKILLS YOU HAVE NOW?
During my time in technical school, I had an amazing encounter with a well-known hairdresser who happened to be looking for someone to train and help in the salon. This opened up new educational opportunities for me and gave me the chance to work for an established name in the industry and to work in interesting places participating in fashion shows and commercials. I realised I had the most fun with men’s hair, so I’ve focused on my skills in this field for a few years now.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE BARBERING COMMUNITY IN POLAND?
Barbering in Poland is growing rapidly – the number of professional barbershops has been increasing, which is raising the standard of barbering as well as customer interest. Poland is becoming a place where barbering is appreciated. The community actively participates in competitions, with events for barbers from all over the country and further afield.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Talented people and travelling inspires me, as well as good music and art which help me to express and understand different perspectives. Delving into the past is also a fascinating way for me to understand how the world has developed and evolved over time.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR 2023 AND THE FUTURE?
I’m focusing on the development of my new barbershop. I’ve been running it for five months now and my aim is to create an atmosphere where both employees and customers feel comfortable and inspire each other.
WILL WE GET TO SEE YOU IN THE UK SOON?
Although I’m not currently planning to visit the UK, it is a goal for me in the near future. I’m fascinated by the hair culture!
