MATAKKI SCISSORS LAUNCHES STANDARDS CHAMPIONS INITIATIVE TO ELEVATE HAIR INDUSTRY TRAINING

A global brand, Matakki Scissors is continuing its commitment to excellence in the hair industry with the launch of its latest initiative, Standards Champions. Known for award winning scissors, outstanding customer care and digital platforms, Matakki is now expanding its impact by supporting accredited education providers in delivering high-quality training.

As a family-owned business, Matakki is led by co-owners James and Emma Curd, whose expertise spans manufacturing, clinical practice, research, and professional registration. Their combined knowledge enables the company to provide education not just on equipment but also on ergonomics, metallurgy, infection prevention, risk assessment, and workplace health and safety.

RAISING INDUSTRY STANDARDS WITH YEOVIL COLLEGE

A strong advocate for qualification and continuous professional development (CPD), Matakki is proud to name Yeovil College as a founding Standards Champion. The Yeovil College Education Team shared their enthusiasm: “Excellence in education is at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated educators strive to nurture the next generation of skilled, confident hair professionals, equipping them with the expertise and creativity needed to thrive in the industry. As proud college Standards Champions at Matakki, we are committed to delivering not only the highest level of training but also ensuring our students work with the very best tools in the trade.” Qualified Lecturer, Leanne Spriggle Hughes spoke about the value of this initiative, highlighting its impact on student learning: “We are committed to shaping the next generation of skilled hair professionals. A crucial part of this journey is ensuring that our apprentices not only develop technical expertise but also understand the importance of their health, workplace health and safety, and professionalism. With the support of Matakki, our learners now have access to all of that. This is a game-changer in their education and development.”

By incorporating professional tools and best practices into training, Yeovil College ensures that students graduate with technical excellence, workplace awareness, and confidence - key skills for a successful career in hairdressing and barbering.

A COMMITMENT TO INDUSTRY GROWTH

For Matakki, raising industry standards goes beyond manufacturing high-quality tools. Emma Curd explains: “Social responsibility is not just about manufacturing processes. We adopt a ‘prevention being better than cure approach’ that encompasses ethical working, supports respect in the industry, and a sustainable and professional career.” Emma’s work with World Skills, HABIA, AHT, and Stylebook reinforces its dedication to uniting learners, employers, and industry professionals. By advocating for qualification standards and workplace safety, the brand aims to shape a more sustainable and skilled workforce. James adds: “Emma’s professional knowledge as a registered and qualified senior clinician of 26 years and an experienced manager, service lead, and a previous key member for the RCN union, means we can advocate for the importance of qualification and standards across the industry from an experienced and evidence-based position.”

LEADING THE WAY IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Standards Champions initiative marks another step in Matakki’s mission to enhance education and safeguard future professionals. Through partnerships with institutions like Yeovil College, Matakki ensures that students gain the skills, knowledge, and industry-leading equipment they need to thrive. Emma concludes: “We are excited to work with Yeovil College who, through this partnership, prove they place high value on their learners. They see the advantage that working with our brand as qualified experts will bring to upskill their learners, improve their long-term health, the safety of their customers, and chances of securing and maintaining employment.” By elevating standards in training, Matakki is setting a new benchmark for safe, effective, and professional development in the hair industry.
