ANDIS FOUNDATION TOPS $1.5M WITH NEWLY ANNOUNCED GRANTS
The Andis Foundation has awarded $1.5 million since its founding in 2015. With its guiding principle of building strong communities on the foundation of family, small grants recipients have all shared a common goal of creating lasting impact. Until recently, all have been in or directly benefited Racine, Wisconsin where four generations of Andis Company leaders have called home. “For one hundred years, Andis has thrived in Southeastern Wisconsin, which is why we are honoured to be able to give back to the communities that have given us so much,” said Laura Andis Bishop, President of Andis Foundation.
PLAY ABOUT BARBERING RELATIONSHIP WINS PRIZE
Nathan Queeley-Dennis’s first play, Bullring Techno Makeout Jamz, which focuses on a man’s relationship with his barber, has been named the overall winner of the 2022 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting. The prize – which seeks scripts from established, emerging and debut writers to develop for the stage – is a partnership between leading commercial property developer Bruntwood, a major supporter of the arts, and worldclass producing theatre, the Royal Exchange Theatre, in Manchester. Nathan Queeley-Dennis is an actor whose credits include Black Love (Kiln Theatre) written by Chinonyerem Odimba, Really Big and Really Loud (Paines Plough) written by 2019 Bruntwood Prize winner Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Bijan Sheibanis production of A Taste of Honey (National Theatre).

Haircuts4Homeless, set up by veteran
hairdresser Stewart Roberts, is on a mission to deliver even more hair services to those in need, with the launch of its Sponsorship Programme. Already winning plaudits for its UK-wide initiative, which provides homeless people with free haircuts to help them look and feel better, the registered charity Haircuts4Homeless (H4H) now hopes that it can spread the goodwill of its community of skilled hairdressing volunteers even further. Founder of H4H Stewart Roberts says, “One of people’s basic rights is for them to feel good about themselves and H4H has always been about helping people to achieve that.”

Treatwell, is continuing to reinvent itself by making it easier than ever to find and book appointments online. This time, with the mission of making booking even more accessible to its users on the one hand, and on the other hand offering partner salons and shops even more visibility and possibilities to fill their agenda, the company has announced the ability to book appointments directly in Apple Maps.
All iOS device users will be able to book an appointment at any Treatwell salon from the Apple Maps app without having to download any other app, at any time and from anywhere. This integration will offer a further simplified experience for users, who will be able to find the shop that best suits their needs by easily choosing it based on location on the map.

MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME TO CREATE BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG BLACK MEN AND BOYS
A three-year programme, named Young Black Men and Mental Health, will see a holistic approach to addressing mental health issues among young Black males in Islington, with the aim of improving personal mental health and wellbeing, aspirations and life opportunities, while reducing exclusions. One strand of the training programme includes a course, recently completed by five Islington barbershops, that will equip them with the skills to recognise that a customer may be struggling with their mental health and point them towards appropriate support. Barbers will be trained as mental health ambassadors and will act as catalysts for improving mental wellbeing.

DENMAN MAKES DONATION TO SCHOOLS SPORT OUTREACH PROGRAMME
With the aim of supporting the local community, earlier this month Denman partnered with Annandale Men’s Hockey Club in South Belfast to help launch the expansion of their landmark Schools Outreach Programme. Denman Chairman, Dr John Rainey MBE has long had ties to the club from his hockey playing days and was delighted to donate £2,000 to fund opportunities for children that might not otherwise be able to afford to play the sport. The donation is part of Denman’s consistent and purposeful CSR (corporate social responsibility) strategy which seeks ways to do good for the community, the environment and the industry.
