MOVING FORWARD
Welcome to the January – March issue of Modern Barber, as we welcome in a new year this issue looks to the future of barbering as rising talent continues to go from strength to strength. We find out how industry innovators are thriving and persevering despite economic difficulty and we also talk to experienced, old-school barbers who share their wisdom and knowledge on page 20.
Three barbers who are making their mark are the brothers at MaxOliver who are advocating for themselves by asking customers to pay for what their haircut is worth on page 32, meanwhile Dean Gleeson shares the benefits of putting together collections in this issue’s Soapbox on page 63.
We also go back in time with our new Back to my Roots feature on page 59 which explores barbers’ beginnings as a source of inspiration for those starting out on their own journey. As well as looking to the past, we talk about good things to come with Modern Barber Award winners Eleni Tsesmatzoglou and Sirak Kebede who spoke to us about their plans after winning at the 2022 awards.
We’re also celebrating our cover star, Rhys Whitehouse, the Professional Barber World Series, with Dapper Dan, Barber of the Year who joined us in conversation to discuss this years’ competition alongside the International Barber of the Year and Barbershop of the Year winners.
Finally, we get straight down to business with a focus on how your barbershop can benefit from retail with hints and tips from the experts to help you stay on track in 2023. Wherever this year takes you, the MB team will be with you every step of the way – here’s to a successful year!
