WE’RE BACK

This issue looks to the future, not the past. It’s dedicated to the rebels, radicals and survivors in the industry (that’s you). It’s for those who won’t take no for an answer and keep on pushing, despite the unpredictable circumstances they’re faced with. It focuses on the inspiring barbershop renovations (p28), the against-all-odds shop openings (p62) and the barbers helping barbers (our new series MB Mentor is worth a read on p57). Speaking of inspiring, the finalists of this years’ Modern Barber Awards have been announced and what a line up! Head to www.modernbarber.co.uk to see the full list.

And someone that’s not only inspiring change but future-proofing the planet one eco-friendly face covering at a time, is our cover star Damien Diablo. He shows just how bad ass a zero waste barber business can look on pages 24-26. And on the topic of the future I hope you enjoy the mad, bad and rad depictions of barbering in 3020 on pages 16-19.

But there’s a lot of work to be done back in the present day. The wise Mike Taylor shares his concern about an industry that he feels is more divided than ever (p60) and read our new feature Soapbox where Ash Edwards from AJ Menspa voices his opinion on diverse hair education (p30).

And it’s hello from me, Charlotte, the new editor of Modern Barber. My virtual door is always open, email me at charlotte@modernbarber.co.uk or drop into Modern Barber’s DMs via @modernbarbermag on Instagram.
