HOW CAN I RAISE MY PROFILE IN THE INDUSTRY?

Want to work with the biggest brands? Our industry experts share their advice for getting noticed

JOSÉ BOBÉ, ALSO KNOWN AS, ‘BOB THE HAIRSTYLIST’, BE HAIR STUDIO, PUERTO RICO

“I’ve been working as a hair stylist for 24 years now, with 10 years as a business owner. My goal is to travel the world representing brands and learning from my colleagues as I educate and share my knowledge with others globally. I’m certain that this journey will expand my horizons, teaching me more about the industry and helping me connect with others that share my passion. How can I gain more exposure from other brands and companies? Do you have any tips on creating more interest on my work and increasing my income?”

CHELSEA MARSHALL, ACCOUNT MANAGER AT LWPR

“It’s important to separate out each of your goals and prioritise which is most important to you, what is required for each step and what you want the outcome to be.

If you are looking to attract the interest of brands and open-up potential educator roles, building a trade profile is a great place to start as this will help to showcase your expertise on a highly visible level and help you to connect with others in the industry, including brands and those that share your passion.

Social media gives the most perfect opportunity for you to talk directly to brands and industry leaders. I am sure you spend time creating and curating your channels, but make sure you put as much time and effort in to engaging with content outside your own.

Brands are always looking for great user generated content so tagging them in images, reels and stories of you actually using their tools and products, as well as the finished look, will help to get you noticed.

But a word of warning, make sure you aren’t tagging competitor brands in the same content, brands won’t share content if you’ve tagged multiple similar brands.

Keep up to date with the latest industry news, trends and innovations and make sure you follow and engage with all the trade press titles.

Networking online and in real life is paramount to increasing those all-important connections, so make sure to interact in real life too, attend industry events when you can.”
