CHARITY GOLF DAY
The Hair & Beauty Charity Golf Day is back – and for 2022 will be held at the iconic Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus.
Held on Monday 23 May, you’re invited to play The Burnside Course which includes the infamous 17th hole, considered one of the hardest par fours in golf. The Burnside oozes character and from the back tees is a splendid test of golf. It was on this course in 1953 where the great Ben Hogan shot 70 in order to qualify for the Open Championship, which he subsequently won. So anyone attending will be in good company!
This year the event will be in memory of committee member and former Charity President, Peter Belcher, who passed away last year. Josh Miller, Joint Managing Director of Charlie Miller and family friend of the Belcher’s, will host the day and will be joined by co-host Paul Brooks, National Sales Manager for Alan Howard.

BARBER LAUNCHES PROJECT TO HELP
Following the death of his father at the age of 15, barber Ken Hermes has launched The Hermes Project, which aims to support children and young people who have been bereaved by parental suicide, people in the same position as Ken found himself 14 years ago.
Through his own experience and the knowledge gained during his time as a barber dealing with mental health, Ken wants to offer a person to talk to for those who need it the most.
“The core mission is to support children,” Ken said. “A lot of that is to do with my own experience. In the short term, it’s all about getting the accredited training -that’s the first point of call. People will be aware and able to contact The Hermes Project for some support. Going into schools and having a chat is really helpful as I will understand the emotions they’re going through.
“In the long term I want to build a national team trained by myself to help people suffering with their mental health.
“Men feel more comfortable speaking to a barber than to a doctor. Making that journey is another thought, so we can take the shop to them.”

Held on 10 July in Brighton, the evening brings together the men’s hairdressing and barbering communities to celebrate the year, the achievements and recognise those individuals who have gone above and beyond.
Executive Director, Jayne Lewis-Orr, says: “The Modern Barber Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the men’s hairdressing and barbering sector. The Awards are open to all stylists who work in the industry – from apprentice to director, to new salons and community heroes, we look forward to recognising those who have got a story to tell.”

PINK MAKES THE BOYS WINK!
Cruz Beckham and Machine Gun Kelly led the way for brightly coloured hair, revealing pink to be the hue du jour.
While Cruz Beckham appeared on the front cover of ID Magazine with a vivid pink, Machine Gun Kelly revealed a softer, pastel pink on his social media channels.

“Pink hair is becoming a trend with influential ‘cool guys’ as it’s breaking the dated stereotypical boundaries of gendering colours. Different is cool, individuality is cool, expressing yourself is cool,” explains Pulp Riot Artist Christabel Legrand.
“Having coloured hair is very much an extension of somebody’s image; it can create the base for a very iconic style, and people are always looking for something different that stands out.”

Senior stylist at The Lounge in Soho, London, Rosie Swindell, agrees, saying that vivid hair is being embraced by more of their male clientele since lockdowns, with more men coming in to get their hair brightly coloured.
“A lot more men are discovering there are more ways to express themselves with hair colour rather than just a cut, which is very exciting.”
@ROHAIR2020
“A lot of guys who have coloured hair in our salon tend to have shorter hair, but when the bleach has a regrowth it’s nice to keep the sides short and keep the length on top to retain the colour. Anyone can have fun and experiment with their hair, if they have the confidence to wear it you’ll suit it. It’s an amazing feeling having bright coloured hair and I’m super hyped that now guys are open to this more.”
