WHY SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION SERVICES CHANGE EVERYTHING

For the Scalpology clinic in Hertforshire and Bath, business is booming. Here, owner Michael Koumis explains the success of scalp micropigmentation in his own words.

Scalpology was inspired by my 20-year career in the barbering industry. For centuries, men and women have enjoyed so much more than just a haircut from the person holding the scissors or razor – they have come to enjoy friendship and the trust that their barber or hairdresser will make them look and feel amazing. Over the past two decades, I have come to value and respect my clients and the trust they have invested in me. As more and more people struggled with hair loss, their resulting social and emotional pain became mine too.

After opening my first barbershop at 22, hair loss was a huge factor for my clients –I saw how it affected their confidence. When a client sits down in your chair and you ask the question “what would you like today sir?” you realise it’s no laughing matter when you see the awkward look on their face as they try to explain what they want you to do with the final 20 strands of hair left on their head.

For many years the only mainstream option for hair loss was either a hair system or a hair transplant, along with the topical remedies. Hair systems can look amazing when fitted professionally, but they come with the added stress of maintenance and a constant upkeep which isn’t practical for everyone. Transplants have evolved with many people opting for this solution but unfortunately not everyone is suitable and this invasive cosmetic surgery does come with risks.

It was in 2014 when I stumbled across scalp micropigmentation and was instantly hooked. I was amazed at how this procedure looked and was able to transform the appearance of a person. It was at this point when I realised that this was the way forward for me … and in 2015 Scalpology was born!

INTRODUCING SMP

SMP is short for scalp micropigmentation. It is a tattoo treatment for the scalp and has been proven to be a cost-effective treatment for hair loss that offers clients realistic expectations and long-lasting results.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) cannot give anyone their hair back. However, what it does do is create the appearance of hair follicles on the scalp. For patches of hair loss, SMP builds density so the scalp beneath the thinning areas is less visible or not visible at all. For full baldness, an entire head of tiny replicated tattooed hair follicles is created so the client looks as though they have voluntarily opted to shave their head. As the shaved head look has been made popular by several high-profile personalities over many decades, it is now a fashion statement for both men and women.

Today, I run both barbershop and Scalpology Clinc in the same premises and have gone on to become an awardwinning practitioner. I also offer scalp micropigmentation training to fellow professionals wanting to broaden their horizons. With clinics in Hertfordshire and Bath we have clients coming from all over the globe for either a treatment or training – we have clients from Thailand, India, Italy and more!

Why do I love this treatment? Asides from the financial benefits, it’s the difference I am able to make in people’s lives. Seeing their faces after the treatment and receiving messages a few days later expressing their gratitude and overwhelming feeling of new found confidence. It’s truly life-changing.”
