A SHAW THING

BACK FOR GOOD

Happy summer… here’s hoping we have a good one! It’s great to be out and about again, the weather is looking a tad better and the Euros are about to start. We are fresh from a new virtual tradeshow, the Barber’s Arms Expo and it was great to see so many brands and attendees getting involved in education.

Something we are still unable to get away from is the lasting legacy of the pandemic and the impact it has had on our industry, in particular staff retention. I have spoken to a lot of shop owners and it seems to be a common theme, so know that you are certainly not alone. Whilst it’s sad to hear, it also presents an opportunity to hit the reset button. Now is the perfect time to get to work on a plan for the future, setting a timeline with goals and objectives that will benefit your business and staff. If you are ever in any doubt, then there is one thing that has remained strong throughout the whole pandemic and that is the comradery within our industry. Don’t be afraid to talk to each other, get advice and to find out how your peers are coping throughout everything. You’ll learn so much and be able to apply some of the advice to your own business.

I hope you all enjoy a great summer and let’s hope this time we are BACK FOR GOOD!

WHAT’S APP-ENING WITH DIRECTOR OF SALES FOR KAO CORPORATION, MITCH LUCAS

I’ve known Mitch for over 25 years and he’s a great guy with lots of knowledge within this industry.

Here’s a quick-fire interview I did with Mitch over What’sApp.

SS. How long have you been at Goldwell?

ML. 38 years.

SS. Wow it’s a life sentence!

SS. Do Goldwell send sales reps into barbershops?

ML. Yes. I’m a big believer in personal relationships so going into salon is still a big part of what my team do. Also we like to offer barbers training on our men’s products and colour services.

SS. Who’s been the driving force behind your career?

ML. A guy who you know very well. Mr Ray Roberts MBE – this guy is responsible for who I am and what I do.

SS. Tell me a funny story about your nights out with me in London.

ML. Not printable Simon! But the night at the Albert Hall and the evening at Bentleys and then the Windmill club will always stand out...

Quick fire questions:

Food? Italian Drink? G&T Destination? Seville Music? David Bowie Ideal dinner date? Jose Mourinho

Mitch is a great guy and if you’re looking out for some new retail ranges then give Goldwell a call. A true gent and a true friend.
